What makes a wedding doula different from a planner?

As your wedding doula, my role is to guide and support you through the planning process. This includes regular “check-in” meetings, which may be scheduled every few months at first and then become monthly or weekly as your wedding day approaches. Unlike a planner, you will be booking and communicating directly with your vendors, while I’m here to provide guidance, encouragement, and ensure the planning process feels smooth and manageable.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Katie, the heart behind The Wedding Doula.

I’ve called Asheville home for the last four years, but my journey in the wedding and event world began over a decade ago. After graduating from the College of Charleston with a degree in Arts Management and Scenic Design, I helped plan my first few weddings—and I was instantly hooked.

A few years later, life took me to Maui, where I dove into the floral industry and eventually managed one of Hawaii’s top floral companies. Working with couples to bring their floral dreams to life was pure joy, and it shaped the creative, detail-oriented approach I bring to planning today.

When Asheville became my new home, I leaned fully into wedding planning and began assisting several local companies. I quickly discovered that planning allowed me to connect with couples on a deeper level. I love being both a grounding presence throughout the process and a witness to the magic of the wedding day.

I’m a type-A girlie (originally from Upstate New York), a wife, and a new mom—so multitasking, organizing, and caring for others is basically my love language. As a true Sagittarius, I’m happiest when I’m exploring, whether that’s gardening, hiking, or crafting something with my hands.

At The Wedding Doula, my goal is simple: to support, guide, and cheer you on as you create a wedding day that feels unmistakably you.
